Paint

My favourite oils…

When I work with oils, I apply it thickly with palette knives (various sizes). I like how it gives me freedom of movement, and how I have to work in the moment (each painting takes about 2 to 3 hours - all in one sitting). When it dries (which takes for-ever!) the oil keeps its depth, colour and shine. I love that. Plus I love the finished, 3D like texture.

I tend to paint oil landscapes from photographs I took (I save the ones I want to paint in a folder on my phone).

I also work on a larger scale canvases with other mediums - oil, acrylic, spray paint and sometimes gold leaf. I paint these in a far more abstract and intuitive way, letting the shapes and colours that appear on the canvas guide the next mark.

I like working in both styles, one style feeds into the other.

This photo is of one of my paint boxes.
